Grow, Learn, Connect

Day Services
Day Services at The Arc Southern Chesapeake offer meaningful, engaging opportunities for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Our programs help people build skills, explore interests, and participate in activities that bring purpose and enjoyment to everyday life.

By offering a variety of experiences, we encourage independence, choice, and personal growth. Every day is an opportunity to learn, grow, and feel a sense of belonging in the community.

Community Development Services (CDS)
Community Development Services support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to build skills, confidence, and meaningful connections in their communities. Through personalized, goal-driven activities, participants strengthen life skills, social relationships, self-advocacy, and independence while actively engaging in community life.

Our goal is to ensure every individual has opportunities to learn, contribute, and thrive as an active and valued member of their community.

Vocational Support/Employment
We believe every person with IDD can work in the community when the right job and work environment are in place. Our Vocational Support services offer guidance through every step of the employment journey, from exploring interests and building skills to finding a job and receiving ongoing support to succeed at work.

Digital Literacy
Our state-of-the-art Tech Coaching Center helps people with IDD build confidence using technology in their everyday lives. Computer labs in The Arc Southern Chesapeake offices throughout Calvert, St. Mary’s, Charles, and Anne Arundel counties are equipped with touch-screen computers and headphones to support hands-on learning. The Tech Coaching Center program is sponsored by Comcast NBCUniversal. We also offer 3D printing and Virtual Reality programs.

Assistive Technology
The Arc Southern Chesapeake helps people with IDD and their families get the specialized equipment they need and learn how to use and maintain it with confidence.

Assistive technology devices include:

  • C-Reader Pens
  • Smart Home Devices
  • AAC Devices, Adaptive Equipment and More

Transportation
A unique offering from The Arc is curb-to-curb transportation, helping most program participants get where they need to go safely and comfortably.

Ability Cab
Ability Cab offers reliable transportation to social and community activities, making it easier for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to stay connected and engaged. In addition to our regular transportation services, we created Ability Cab, a grant-funded transportation service and staff to take people to activities on evenings and weekends. Offerings have included trips to the DC Zoo and museums, theaters, dinners, and many other client-selected activities.

Transitioning Youth
Through partnerships with Maryland’s Division of Rehabilitation Services (DORS) and public school systems in Calvert, St. Mary’s, Charles, and Anne Arundel counties, we support young adults as they transition from school to work or post-secondary education.

Family Supports
We offer personalized support to empower and guide families and adults as they navigate the resources available to them. Our Family Support Services provide guidance at every stage, helping families feel informed and confident in their next steps.
