At The Arc Southern Chesapeake, we value the critical role Coordinators of Community Services (CCSs) play in helping individuals with IDD connect with supports and services that align with their goals, interests, and needs.

This page is designed to give you a clear overview of our services, programs, admissions process, answer common questions and provide key contacts so you can determine whether our organization may be a good fit for the individuals and families you support. If you are referring someone for services, the information below will guide you through the process.

What to Expect From Our Admissions Process

  2. Let’s Meet

    Meetings with the applicant, their support teams, and the Arc are held to gain a deeper understanding of the needs and preferences.

  3. Review

    The Arc will evaluate the request and determine if we can provide services.

  4. Decision

    The Arc Team will alert you and your team about the decision.

Services We Provide

Below you will find a brief explanation of Arc services. Please note, this list is not inclusive of every service The Arc Southern Chesapeake provides but details those most requested.

Community Living Group Home

This service helps people with IDD live in their communities instead of in facilities. The Arc’s Residential Program respects individuals’ choices regarding housemates, staff, neighborhoods, routines, and activities, aiming to support their growth and independence from early adulthood onward. We offer 24-hour assistance in over 30 group homes across Calvert, Charles, Anne Arundel and St. Mary’s Counties, including help with transportation, personal care, appointments, shopping, meal prep, finances, nursing, psychological support, home maintenance, skill development, and community connections.

This service helps you build or refine independent living skills while staying in your own home, tailored to your choices and preferences. It’s designed for those who can live independently with daily support for self-direction and problem-solving. We provide or arrange transportation for medical appointments, community outings, and fostering community connections.

The Respite Care program offers short-term relief for families and primary caregivers, giving them a break from routine and caregiving. Available for individuals 21 and older, this service is provided in one of our group homes, where dedicated staff assist with daily routines, medical care, skill development, and community integration.

Based in our offices in Calvert, Charles, or St. Mary’s counties, this service helps participants grow by building on their skills, desires, and dreams. It focuses on skill development in daily living, work, and socialization through meaningful activities. Most activities are office-based, with some community outings. Transportation to and from home is provided.

CDS supports skill development for community involvement through engaging in local activities. Schedules are created with the individual to plan activities and outings that align with their goals and preferences. Most activities occur in the community, with some events at our three offices. Transportation to and from home is provided.

Employment Services offers flexible support to help individuals explore career interests and secure jobs that match their strengths and motivations. The goal is to find a natural fit between their abilities and community job opportunities. Services are tailored to each person’s needs and preferences.

Transportation Services help individuals travel to community activities based on their needs. Support includes teaching safe navigation, using public transportation, and providing mileage reimbursement. The Arc Southern Chesapeake primarily offers curb-to-curb service for most program participants attending other services.

BSS provides home and community-based support to help individuals thrive. Services include early detection and prevention of problem behaviors, handling behavioral emergencies, and creating behavior plans for less severe challenges to support personal growth.

This service helps participants develop independent living skills and supports community participation and integration. It includes assistance with shopping, meal prep, transportation, and medical or recreational needs. Tailored to each individual, support is provided by dedicated staff at the participant’s home to work on goals from their person-centered plan.

This service provides long-term, person-centered therapeutic services for eligible children and youth with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). It aims to support home and community living as an alternative to institutional care.
Note: to receive this service from our agency you must already have the Autism Waiver in place.

This service enhances independent living by improving communication, social interactions, community integration, and relationships. It involves assessing and assisting with purchasing technology to support functional abilities, such as:

  • Speech and communication devices
  • Visual or hearing aids
  • Computer and telephone accessories
  • Computer applications
  • Alarm systems
  • Adaptive toys and specialized equipment

CCS FAQs

Do you do tours of the facilities?

Yes, we do, but an application must be on file first. This ensures that we are connecting you with the correct team members for your visit and considering the safety of the staff and individuals we support.
